NAIDOC

NAIDOC Week is marked across Australia every year. It is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and anchievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, it’s grown to become one of the most important weeks on the Australian calendar.

Each year, a theme is chosen as a focus for that year’s NAIDOC Week, it encourages people across the country to connect with a unique part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experience. The themes allow us to reflect and centre First Nations stories.

In Term 3 each year we celebrate NAIDOC week with several activities; this year our activity was a whole school collaboration. We had sand delivered out behind the music room, and there were two sand pits made: one for Pre-primary to Year 3 and another for Year 4-6 . We had set designs for each pit as a guide for the students, each class went out with Mrs Edwards to collect and contributed to create the relevant sand art design.

Each class throughout the week visited the LOTE room where an Indigenous community member read a dreamtime story to the students. This was then followed by the students participating in an Indigenous rock painting art activity.
