Flagpoles and Smoking Ceremony

In 2022 Flinders Park Primary School installed two additional flagpoles, and was honoured to raise the Aboriginal flag for the first time, in a ceremony lead by community Menang elders.

Avril conducted the Welcome to Country and spoke to the gathered families and students. She then invited Lesley and Glenda Williams to address the audience. Lindsay conducted the Smoking Ceremony as the Student Councillors presented the flag.

As the flag was raised through the billowing smoke, the audience was invited to come and walk through the smoke to merit from the cleansing properties.

The three flagpoles are situated at the front of the school next to the Administration Building.

Each school day since the ceremony we have flown the Aboriginal flag alongside the Australian National flag.
