In 2017 Chaplain Mitch Williams collaborated with Art Specialist, Sarah McNamara and Gardener, Peter Clapp to create and construct a wooden mural representation of the Green Island story as an addition to the Six Seasons Gardens at Flinders Park Primary School.
To develop the mural Mitch first consulted with Aboriginal Elder Treasy Woods and worked on the design with Ms McNamara and students from (then) 4.2.
Mitch had help from a number of students across the school during the construction stage. This venture broadens understandings of Menang culture and strengthened the students’ abilities in carpentry and teamwork.
The Green Island mural is now in place at the end of the cricket nets. The mural complements the already existing Green Island playground in the Six Seasons Gardens and can be utilized by teachers to explain the story to students.
The story can be found on the Six Seasons section of this website in Teacher Resources.
