Catching The Bus To And From School

Flinders Parks Primary School is a hub for buses servicing other schools, hence we are experienced at supporting our students from Kindy to Year 6 in using this mode of transport to and from school.

UPDATE 1: School Bus Services Transport Assistance - Applications close 15 November 2024 (Orange Bus Service)

Transport assistance is available to students who:

Parents apply online at School Bus Services. To save a seat for their child, parents are encouraged to submit applications before 15 November 2024.

Families that are already registered with School Bus Services do not need to reapply if there are no changes to their current circumstances. However, if they have changed their residential address or school they will need to reapply for transport assistance.

UPDATE 2: Ride to School Free Program 2024 - Effective 5 February 2024 to the end of the school year 2024

This school year, students with a valid Student SmartRider can travel for free on Transperth services to and from school, from Monday through Friday.

The Ride to School Free Program will begin on Monday February 5 and students must tag on and off every journey to receive the free travel.

Further information on the Ride to School Free Program and Student SmartRiders can be found on the Transperth website.(link is external)

Orange Buses - Out of Area

If your child will be travelling more than 4.5km from home to school, is enrolled at the nearest appropriate school to where they live, and is outside the Public Transport Boundary they would be eligible for the Travel Assistance scheme on the Orange Buses.  For more information and an online application see School Bus Services.

Green Buses - Public Transport

If your child lives within the Public Transport Boundary they have access to the TransRegional school and town bus services.  The Albany buses are managed by the Swan Transit Depot.

The timetables, fares and any other important notices pertaining to the Albany town and school bus services are available at TransRegional School Bus Services.

To ride the bus students can pay cash, however a slightly cheaper method is for your child to have a SmartRider.  SmartRiders can be used on all public transport in Perth too - great for travelling on the holidays!  To find out more about SmartRiders visit Student SmartRider.  The good news is, Flinders Park PS is registered with Transperth, which means you can apply for your child's card online and have it verified automatically - no need to bring in a form.

School Support

Students arriving on the buses in the morning are supervised by a Bus Warden as they alight.  Students in Kindy and Pre-Primary are collected by an Education Assistant and are supervised in a short activity until they are walked to class.

At the end of the day Kindy and Pre-Primary students are walked from their classroom to the Assembly Hall, where they wait with the other students.  All students are supervised by a member of staff until the buses arrive, at which time they are escorted out to the bus bay.

If you have a child catching the bus to and/or from school please let us know so we can add their name to our records.  This assists us to know they are part of the bus group and ensures we supervise them accordingly.
