Dear Families,
As we move into Makuru, the Noongar season of rain and cooler weather, we have noticed the changing landscape around our school as winter arrives. Our school grounds are now a vibrant green, with red winter wildflowers beginning to emerge and an abundance of fallen leaves beneath our deciduous trees. These changes remind us of the beauty of the seasons and provide opportunities for students to connect with and learn from the environment around them.
This term, students have been learning about the Noongar seasons, National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. Through these experiences, students have explored the importance of truth-telling, learning from the past and building respectful relationships with one another.
These learning opportunities reflect our school values of Respect, Kindness and Responsibility and help us create a school community where everyone feels valued, connected and that they belong.
I would like to thank our students, staff, families, School Board and wider community for their valuable contributions to the development of our new 2026–2028 Business Plan.
Over recent months, students, staff, our School Board and members of our wider community have worked together to identify what matters most for the future of Flinders Park Primary School. This collaborative process has helped shape our improvement journey for the next three years and reflects our shared commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Our new Business Plan will feature a refreshed logo and will be guided by our moral purpose:
Together we ensure every student belongs and achieves their personal best.
The Business Plan will focus on three key priority areas:
These priorities will guide our decision-making, improvement efforts and resource allocation over the next three years as we continue striving for the very best outcomes for every student.
Teaching Excellence
Reading Success Through EDvance
Our whole-school focus through the Fogarty EDvance program continues to be improving reading outcomes for all students. Staff are working collaboratively to strengthen teaching practices and ensure every child receives high-quality reading instruction.
Families play an important role in supporting reading development. Encouraging your child to read regularly at home remains one of the most effective ways to support learning and foster a lifelong love of reading.
Book Fair Success
Thank you to all families who supported our recent Book Fair. It was wonderful to see so many students excited about books and reading while helping raise funds for valuable school resources.
Have Sum Fun Mathematics Competition
Next week, twelve Year 5 and 6 students will proudly represent Flinders Park Primary School at the Have Sum Fun Mathematics Competition hosted by Mount Lockyer Primary School.
This is the first time our school has participated in the event. We are incredibly proud of the students selected to attend and know they will represent our school with enthusiasm, determination and pride.
Reporting to Parents – Semester 1 Student Reports
Semester 1 student reports will be available to families later this term.
Reports will include:
These changes align with updated reporting requirements from the Department of Education and are designed to provide families with clear information about student achievement and progress.
Looking ahead, planning is underway to provide increased opportunities for families to connect with teachers during Semester 2 to discuss student achievement, progress and future learning goals.
Safe and Supportive School
Classroom Mastery
Last week, we introduced three new whole-school routines as part of our Classroom Mastery work:
✅ Classroom Entry
✅ Classroom Exit
✅ Cue to Start
These consistent routines help create calm, predictable and positive learning environments where every student can learn and every teacher can teach.
By using the same routines across the school, students know what is expected of them, helping them feel safe, supported and ready to learn. These routines reinforce our school values of Respect, Kindness and Responsibility and contribute to a strong sense of belonging across our school.
Walk to School Day
It was fantastic to see so many students and families participating in Walk to School Day. Our Your Move Teams continue to encourage students and families to consider active transport options such as walking, riding and scooting to school where possible.
These healthy habits support student wellbeing, independence and environmental sustainability while helping students arrive at school ready to learn.
Connected Community
Your Move Team - Leadership Lab
Our senior Your Move Team recently participated in Leadership Lab training at the Albany Town Hall alongside students from other local schools across the Great Southern.
The day provided students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills, build confidence, collaborate with peers and explore ways they can make a positive impact within their school communities.
We are proud of the way our students represented Flinders Park Primary School and look forward to seeing them apply their new knowledge and skills to support active transport initiatives, student voice and leadership opportunities throughout our school.
Our Leadership Lab students continue to build confidence, teamwork and leadership skills through activities that strengthen student voice and contribution to our school community.
Improving Communication with Families
Following a recent review of our communication processes, we have found that families engage most frequently with Compass and our Facebook page.
As a result:
If you need assistance downloading the Compass app or logging in, please contact our Front Office and we will be happy to help.
Welcome to Our School Board
We are pleased to welcome our 2026 School Board and thank all members for their commitment to supporting Flinders Park Primary School.
