Term 4 Issue 1

Principal's Message

Welcome to Week 7, everyone! Term 4 is certainly moving quickly, and there is a wonderful sense of excitement building across the school as we head towards end of year celebrations and achievements. As we enjoy Kambarang, the Noongar season of birth and new growth, our school is full of colour, activity, and joyful learning. It’s a beautiful reminder of the energy our students bring each day and the many special moments still to come as we finish the year together.

To keep our community well informed, we’ve refreshed our newsletter structure. It now shines a spotlight on the important work happening across our schools three priority areas: Quality Teaching, Wellbeing, and Community Partnerships.

QUALITY TEACHING

Teaching and Learning – Spelling Success

Our classrooms continue to buzz with excitement and learning. We are thrilled to celebrate the fantastic improvements in our student spelling data this semester. This growth is a direct result of the collaborative efforts and growth mindset shown by our teaching staff as they implemented our whole school spelling programs, with consistent, evidence-based practices across classrooms. Students have been engaging with Word Origins (Years 4–6) and UFLI (PP–3) showing great enthusiasm towards improving their literacy skills. A huge thank you to our staff for their professionalism and ongoing commitment to high quality literacy teaching.

A reminder that our Year-Level Focus Documents remain available on our website, giving families a snapshot of what students are learning each term.

Interschool Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to the students selected to represent Flinders Park in this week’s Interschool Athletics Carnival:

Jumps and Throws – Spencer Park Primary School (Tuesday)

Track Events – McLean Oval Denmark (Thursday)

A big thank you to our students and staff for all the time and effort they’ve put into training and getting ready for the events. We know our students will do us proud and represent Flinders Park with great sportsmanship and enthusiasm.

Planning for 2025

As we prepare for next year, we ask families to notify the office if your child will not be returning to Flinders Park Primary School in 2026 (excluding Year 6 students). Accurate numbers help us plan class structures and staffing.

If you wish to make a class placement request, please submit this in writing by Friday 5 December 2025 to flinderspark.ps@education.wa.edu.au. While we consider all reasonable requests, not all can be guaranteed.

Semester 2 Reports

Teachers are currently preparing Semester 2 reports, which will be available on Connect in Week 10. Students will receive subject grades and a general comment, with SEN reports provided for students on IEPs.

Reports should never come as a surprise! If you have concerns, please speak with your child’s teacher.

Uniform Reminder

A reminder that students are expected to wear their full school uniform and safe, enclosed footwear each day. Jewellery should be left at home for safety.

Lost Property is filling up quickly, please check Block 5 for missing jumpers.

Business Planning & School Branding

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our recent consultation sessions. We received positive feedback, celebrating the progress made over the past few years and the shared excitement for what we want for our students and our community, as we plan our next steps.

This term we continue to build our 2026–2028 Business Plan, ensuring the voices of students, staff, and families guide our improvement journey priorities. We are also exploring updates to our school branding, while maintaining important historical elements such as the Albany Coccinia Banksia, our logo shape, and our school colours. Student voice will play a key role in this work across the coming weeks.

WELLBEING

PBS Dojo Challenge – Amazing Progress!

Our students continue to work hard towards our whole school goal of 100,000 Dojo points before the end of Term 4, earned by showing Respect, Kindness and Responsibility. Students selected a Colour Run and Water Fun Day as our whole school reward once we reach our 100,000 point goal, and we are well on track to achieving this. The excitement is already building!

Our first milestone reached: 20,000 points, earning an extra 10 minutes of Break 2 play.

Only 5,000 points to go until we reach 40,000 points, earning another 10 minutes of Break 2 play.  Fantastic effort!

Consistent Predictable Routines

This semester we have been developing Consistent Predictable Routines across our school to support classroom readiness and learning success. These include On the Move, Lining Up, and Bags on Hooks. These routines help create a learning environment that is safe, calm and ready to learn for all students.

Our staff continue to draw on evidence-based strategies to build these routines consistently across the school, ensuring students know what to expect each day.

Updated PBS Matrix

Our updated PBS Matrix is now available on the school website and is being used consistently across all classrooms. Thank you to the students, staff, and community members who contributed to its review and development over the past 12 months.

New PBS signage will begin appearing around the school next year so keep an eye out for our refreshed expectations and our new mascot!

Social Media Guidelines – Under 16s

The Federal Government has released updated social media guidelines for children under 16. Parents are encouraged to discuss these changes with their children, particularly if they currently use platforms that may be affected. Further information will be emailed to all families via Connect.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Children’s University

Congratulations to our 2025 Children’s University graduates! Thank you to Miss Walter for her ongoing leadership of the program and to Mrs Els for supporting students at the event. A special congratulations to Rachel Els, who proudly delivered a speech on behalf of the student graduates.

Albany Christmas Pageant – Surfing Santa

We are excited to once again be part of the Albany Christmas Pageant this year. Ms Dente will be coordinating this year’s pageant with her team of teacher elves. More information will be shared with families this week via Connect, with permissions completed through Compass.

Thank you to our families for your continued support, positivity, and partnership. By working together, focusing on Quality Teaching, Wellbeing, and Community Partnerships, we are building a strong community of learning minds and kind hearts, connected through culture.

Have a great week!

Warm regards

Kylee Weadley
