Term 3 Issue 1

Principal's Message

Message from the Principal

It has been a wonderful start to Term 3 at Flinders Park Primary, filled with opportunities for learning, community connection, and celebration. From planting trees to protect our local wildlife, to preparing for NAIDOC Week, our students continue to show respect, kindness, and a strong sense of responsibility.

National Tree Planting Day – Growing for the Future

During the first week of term, our school came alive with the buzz of shovels, soil, and smiling faces as we celebrated National Tree Planting Day. Thanks to the generosity of South Coast NRM, we received 50 possum-friendly trees to support the Possum Conservation Project in the Oyster Harbour–Bayonet Head area, helping to revegetate and restore important habitat.

We were delighted to be joined by Southern Aboriginal Corporation Rangers, Coby and Henry, who shared their incredible knowledge, stories, and deep connection to Country. This experience not only helped us care for our local environment but also deepened our understanding of the land we are privileged to learn on. Featuring on the front page of the Extra was an exciting surprise for both students and staff!

Wheels on Wednesday

Our Wheels on Wednesday program is in full swing, with students enjoying the chance to bring their bikes to school each Wednesday and ride during Break 1.

From next week, Year 1 and Year 2 students are invited to join the fun. Riders must be:

  • Confident (no trainer wheels)

  • Wearing a helmet

  • With a signed permission form – available from the front office

Bikes should be stored in the bike cage before school and will be available at the start of Break 1.

NAIDOC Week – The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy

Next week, Flinders Park Primary School will proudly celebrate NAIDOC Week, honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our celebrations will begin with the NAIDOC Assembly on Monday 18 August at 9:30 am, featuring a Welcome to Country by Uncle Lindsay Dean, a vibrant dance group performance, and the presentation of NAIDOC Certificates. Families are warmly invited to join us for this special event.

Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of activities exploring Aboriginal culture and history. Highlights include a NAIDOC Week breakfast, a choir performance, and our whole school Classroom Door Decoration Competition inspired by this year’s theme. Judging will take place at the end of the week, and we look forward to seeing the creativity on display.

Open Night – Wednesday 17 September

Open Night is just around the corner! Our much-loved Passport Adventure will return this year, offering families the chance to collect stamps at different destinations around the school while exploring classrooms and celebrating student learning.

The P&C Fundraising Committee will provide delicious food options and run a raffle to raise funds for school upgrades. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Eagles and Dockers Cup

Students have been working hard training during break times in preparation for the Eagles and Dockers Cup in Week 6. A big thank you to Mr Fielding and Ms Menegola for their time, energy, and support in training our teams for this exciting interschool event.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

Warm regards

Kylee Weadley

Colourful Cubby House Surprise

The Pre-primary and Kindy children were greeted with a colorful surprise as they returned to school this term — their beloved cubby house has been given a vibrant makeover! Thanks to the creative efforts of Mr Clapp, the cubby now shines in bright rainbow colours that have brought smiles and excitement to our youngest students.

This wonderful transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our P&C. A heartfelt thank you goes out to them for their donation towards the paint supplies. Their contribution has helped create a more joyful and inspiring play space for our children.

We love seeing our school community come together to make Flinders Park Primary a fun and welcoming place for all!

Waste Warriors

Hi, we are the Waste Warriors, and this fortnight we have noticed that the class recycling bins have been doing well, but we have found some plastic, pens, tissues and some other bits and bobs in the bins.

We have also noticed that there have been pieces of paper smaller than a credit card. So, when we get the sizing right your bins will be close to perfect. Now you probably found a couple green bins around the school well they are cash for can bins. You have been doing good, but we have recently found a paper cup in the green bin.

The compost was great other than a full Nutella sandwich with plastic rap on it. You know how you put tissues in the recycling bin how about put your tissues in the compost. Each assembly we have been handing out a trophy made of recyclable materials. The trophy is for the class that has the best recycling bin. Last week the winning class was 5.4 .

Fairy Bread Fun

This term, our Pre-primary students have been diving into the world of procedure writing — learning how to sequence steps and follow instructions in a fun and meaningful way. To bring their learning to life, the children took part in a hands-on activity: making fairy bread!

With great excitement, students followed a simple set of steps to create their delicious treat. They practiced using words like firstnext, and finally as they spread butter on bread, sprinkled colourful hundreds and thousands, and enjoyed the results of their hard work.

This engaging activity not only helped reinforce literacy skills but also encouraged independence, fine motor development, and a sense of accomplishment. It was wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic about learning — and enjoying a tasty reward at the end!

We’re proud of our young writers and look forward to more creative learning experiences throughout the term.

The Golden Backpack

This fortnight, our PBS focus has been on Responsibility, with a spotlight on responsibility and looking after your things.

Students were encouraged to:

  • Keep their classroom areas neat and tidy
  • Ensure bags are hung up in their designated spots
  • Take care of personal items and shared resources

We’ve seen fantastic efforts across the school, and we’re excited to announce that the winning classroom is 2.4!

They’ve earned the coveted Golden Backpack Trophy for their outstanding commitment to responsibility and care for their learning environment. Well done, Room 2.4!

Let’s keep up the great work and continue showing pride in our spaces!

A Note from the Chaplain

Hi everyone and welcome to Term 3! I hope the holidays were filled with laughter and rest. We're back and ready for another term of learning, growing, and sharing good times together.

Exciting news! We’re starting a Crochet Club here at school! Whether your seasoned stitcher or just curious about what crochet is, this club is all about fun, creativity, and trying something new.

But we need a little help to get things rolling...

Calling for donations!
If you have any spare wool/yarn or crochet needles/hooks lying around at home, we’d love to give them a new life! Any donation would be greatly appreciated!

If you’d like to donate or have any questions, feel free to contact me at the school on Tuesdays or Fridays via the school number.

Looking forward to a wonderful term ahead!

Mckenna
