Welcome to Term 2
It’s been wonderful to welcome students and staff back for what promises to be an exciting and enriching term. We've enjoyed hearing about the many adventures families had over the break, with many taking the opportunity to explore the beauty of Menang boodja — the land we are so fortunate to call home.
At this time of year, we begin to see the transition between the Noongar seasons, moving from Djeran into Makuru. I had the joy of visiting the Porongurup Ranges with my family and sharing a walk along Nancy Peak. The red gums were flowering, water was flowing over granite rocks, and fresh new growth was bursting through — a powerful reminder of the beauty and rhythm of nature all around us.
Celebrating Culture and Country
This term, we are proud to be working alongside local artist Jess Woods, who will lead a series of workshops with students and staff to deepen our understanding of local Aboriginal history, stories, and connection to Country. Together, we’ll be creating a shared artwork that reflects the flora and fauna surrounding us at Flinders Park — a meaningful celebration of culture, community, and learning.
This project is part of our broader focus on building strong community partnerships, ensuring that Aboriginal culture and perspectives are not only acknowledged but woven into the fabric of our school identity. The resulting artwork will play a significant role in the future design and branding of our school and will be featured as part of our new Business Plan in 2026.
Quality Teaching and Learning: Our Focus on Student Success
Our core focus remains student growth and achievement. To support this, we are pleased to introduce two new roles to our Leadership Team:
We also welcome Mrs Jenni Clark to Room 3.4 — a familiar face who will continue to teach Health on Mondays. These additions reflect our commitment to creating engaging learning environments where all students feel supported to thrive.
ANZAC Day Ceremony
Last Tuesday, our school came together to commemorate ANZAC Day with a moving service led by our Student Councillors. We honoured the brave men and women who served our country, including the ANZACs — the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps — whose legacy of courage, mateship, endurance and sacrifice continues to guide us.
Albany holds a special place in ANZAC history, being the departure point for the first troop convoys in 1914. For many, Albany was the last piece of Australia they ever saw. The ANZAC spirit — courage, mateship, endurance, and sacrifice — lives on today. It is part of who we are as Australians. It reminds us to show bravery when we face challenges, to support and care for each other, and to act with kindness and respect in everything we do. These values are timeless and continue to shape the way we live, learn, and treat one another.
Although many of the soldiers and nurses we honour lived more than 100 years ago, their values still guide us. Every day here at Flinders Park Primary School, we can show the ANZAC spirit — by being good friends, by standing up for what is right, and by working together as a team. ANZAC Day also reminds us how fortunate we are to live in a country where we enjoy peace, safety, and freedom — gifts protected by those who came before us. Our students showed the utmost respect through their behaviour and engagement during the ceremony. We are very proud of them.
Interm Swimming
This year, Interm Swimming will take place over two terms:
Kaartdijin Program – New Communication and Learning Platform
We are excited to begin the rollout of the Kaartdijin solution, a new, integrated communication and learning platform designed to streamline processes and improve access to student and school information. Kaartdijin — the Noongar word for "knowledge" — reflects our goal of supporting learning through connection and shared wisdom.
The platform, known as Compass, will replace our current system and will go live at the beginning of Term 3. We will keep families informed throughout the term to ensure a smooth transition.
Meet Bonnie – Our Wellbeing Dog!
Hi, I’m Bonnie — a 2-year-old Labradoodle, and I’m thrilled to start my new role at Flinders Park as your Wellbeing Dog!

This is my first official job, and I’m currently on probation until the end of term. I’ve already loved meeting lots of students this week — thank you for the gentle pats and lovely compliments about my soft fur and stylish bandana! I live with Mrs Weadley, and together we’ve been training since I was 12 weeks old. I’m now working with Perth Animal Training Specialists to complete my Therapy Dog certification. My role is to help build a positive school culture and support everyone’s health and wellbeing. Whether it’s helping students settle into school, giving a calming cuddle, or just sharing a waggy tail and a smile — I’m here to help.
A huge thank you to Head to Tail Pets for generously donating treats and supplies to support me in my new role! If you have any questions or concerns about your child interacting with me, please contact the school.
Love, Bonnie
P&C Mother’s Day Stall
Thank you to our amazing P&C and school community for your generosity and support of the Mother’s Day Stall! This year, we raised over $1500 — all through donated gifts. This is a wonderful effort that will support a range of initiatives across the school. We hope all our special mums, grandmothers, and carers enjoy their gifts and have a wonderful day being celebrated. Wishing you all a Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday!
Warm Regards
Kylee Weadley
Dates for Your Diary
Walk to School Day – Friday 16 May
Book Fair – Monday 26 May to Friday 30 May
Faction Cross Country Carnival – Friday 6 June
Hello, my name is Brooke and I am the School Psychologist at Flinders Park PS this year. It's great to be back at Flinders on Tuesday and Thursday each week.
Outside of work I have two naughty sausage dogs at home that I love to play with.
I'm looking forward to working as a part of the school community this year. Please speak with your child's teacher for a referral to my service.

32 year 5 and year 6 students attended the recent Primary Interschool Orienteering Carnival which was held at the Eastern section of the Centennial precinct in glorious sunny weather.
Students were required to find a certain number of 'controls' as fast as possible using electronic devices.
Whilst speed is helpful, students also had to focus on not making an easy error which could disqualify them from their race.
The year 6 girls got the school off to a flyer with 7 girls finishing in the top 8, leaving many other schools gobsmacked. It was a long and nervous wait to see if they had completed the course correctly.
The year 6 boys also finished well and the year 5's, in their first ever Orienteering carnival managed to get around the course with little error. The lack of errors was the telling difference at the results end.
Final Results:
Year 5's - Flinders was 2nd behind GSG.
Year 6's - Flinders was 1st.
Overall - Flinders was 1st.
Congratulations to all our competitors with a special mention to those who finished top 3 in their division - Olivia, Indi, Christine, Chase, Harrison, Charlotte and Alex.

This Term the children in Room 2.2 are learning about Farms. Throughout the term they will be investigating how plants grow and where we get our food from.
On Wednesday, the children and their teachers made the most of the beautiful Autumn day by planting a veggie garden in a previously unused area of the playground. The children planted broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, peas and herbs. They are very excited to see their new garden grow and look forward to caring for and maintaining it throughout the term.

Our Your Move student team has been very busy planning and organising events for our school. They will be an active part of Walk2School Day next week and also support Mr Fielding running Bike-Ed for our Year 4 students. More information about the events you can find below.
Next Friday, the 16th of May is National Walk safely to School Day. Walk safely to school first started in 1999. Now, in 2025, Walk Safely to School Day celebrates its 25th anniversary!
Walking to school is the perfect way to start the day by getting some exercise and fresh air, ready to start school with a clear mind.
We invite you to join Mrs Fielding, Ms Barnett and the ‘Your Move Team’ next Friday who will lead the walking school bus this year leaving at 8am sharp from the corner of Allwood Parade and Warlock Road.
The walking bus then goes; Left down Meananger Crescent, Right onto Hiam Street, Right onto Range Court, Left on Adam Street, Left on Green Island Crescent and then right onto Yatana Road continuing to school.
You are welcome to join the walking bus along the way. We hope to see you there!
Each Monday in weeks 4, 5, 7 & 8, Mr Fielding will be conducting bike education lessons with our year 4 students. Students will be learning how to make a bike check, adjust helmets and execute skills such as braking, steering and navigating obstacles.
The lessons will be held on the main ballcourt and school oval. Students will be utilising the school ‘bike’ library to participate in the lessons which will prepare students for path and future road riding.
This week Room 2.1 and 4.3 began their Buddy Class program. This program pairs older students with younger students to foster positive relationships, support, and a sense of belonging at our wonderful school. The Buddy Class program will see the older students acting as mentors and guides for the younger students, helping our students feel more comfortable, connected, and confident at school. There were big smiles all around as students got to know each other and built connections, sharing a story together and asking lots of questions. The Year Ones are very excited for their buddies to come back again next week!
