Dear parents, caregivers and guardians,
I would like to thank all the students, parents and staff members for making me feel so welcome this week. Mrs Kylee Weadley has taken a well earned break for Weeks 8 and 9 and I have the privilege of filling the role of principal in your wonderful school. My substantive role is principal of Walpole Primary School. Please feel free to come and say hello.
It has been great to see the students demonstrating our current PBS focus of Kindness when I have been visiting classrooms and out in the playground. Kindness fosters stronger relationships, boosts mental and physical well-being, and creates a more positive and supportive environment for everyone, both for the giver and the receiver.
Easter Raffle
The Flinders Park P&C are looking for donations for our annual Easter Egg Raffle. Donations may include easter eggs, books, chocolate bars, easter toy and easter activities. The donations can be left in the tubs located around the school. The draw will occur in conjunction with the Wheelie Fun Day on Thursday 10 April. One set of raffle tickets were sent home with each child this week.
Wheelie Fun Day
On Thursday April 10, students are invited to bring their bike or scooter to school to participate in a range of activities organised by the Year 6 student leaders and staff. The activity is a well earned reward for the students reaching their whole school PBS goal by demonstrating our expectations of being Respectful, Kind and Responsible.
Interschool Swimming Carnival
The students and Ms Menegola are very excited about the Interschool Swimming Carnival being held at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre this coming Tuesday 1 April. It would be great to see as many parents as possible cheering on our team of swimmers. I would like to thank Ms Menegola and her team for the effort that goes into preparing for such an event and wish the team the best of luck.
West Coast Eagles Clinic
The students from Pre-Primary to Year 2 began Week 8 with a visit from Rick the Rock and the West coast Eagles Great Southern Coordinator, Brad Nisbett. Brad and Rick discussed with the students, the importance of keeping healthy and being resilient. Rick and Brad demonstrated how the students can give things a go and try their best. The presentation was followed up with a clinic focussing on kicking and handballing. Lots of fun and laughter was had by all.

Dates for your diary:
We want to introduce our Fabulous Flinders Park staff to you.
This week, we introduce our teachers from Block 4 —Ms Walter (year 3/4), Mrs Kelly-Sibley (Year 4), Ms Williams (Year 4), Mr Doubikin and Mrs Marwick (Year 4/5) and Mrs Senn (Year 5). Our amazing teachers go above and beyond to support every student, creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment where all children can thrive.
Did you know:
Ms Walter makes jewellery.
Ms Kelly-Sibley breeds beautiful puppies.
Ms Williams is a talented language teacher as well.
Mr Doubikin enjoys a vegan diet and likes to surf.
Mrs Marwick has seven roosters at home.
Mrs Senn enjoys going geocaching.
Thank you all for the amazing work you do supporting our students, and we are grateful to have you on the Flinders team.
The Flinders Regatta is an annual event which is designed to recognise the birthday of Matthew Flinders after whom our school is named. He was born on 16 March 1774 - a mere 251 years ago!
Students in year 6 were challenged to make recyclable boats and to participate in a 'dry boat race' on the oval. This year we had a large flotilla of craft with 19 boats attempting the event - one of the largest groups in recent years. The race was full of colour and laughter and a few shipping collisions on the course much to the delight of those who came to watch.
The eventual winners in a very close race were Rose and Lyla.
Congratulations to all who participated/made the vessels!
Many thanks to photographer Mia who took many fantastic photos.
Over 122 students actively made their way to school: 95 students pedal powered their way, 27 students scooted and 35 students caught the bus to school this morning.
Our students arrived from 8.15am and checked their bikes and scooters in with our deputy principal Richelle who was supported by our student councillors. We recorded bikes, scooters, student names and classrooms for our survey and to create our Ride2School certificates.
This year we gave our students a special challenge, the best dressed up and decorated bikes and scooters would win a prize.
The atmosphere at school was buzzing with excitement and students admired and complemented each other’s bike creations. There were dinosaur bikes, unicorn bikes, wildflower bikes and lots of lights and balloons to be seen.
Our Pre-primary class had two bike mascots for Ride2School Day!! Flinders Bear and Buddy the Dinosaur went all out with their decorations this year.
Just before Break 1 we organized a bike parade for students to show off and present their bikes to the school. A judging panel chose the four best dressed bikes. The winning students were announced at our assembly and received a promotional Your Move/WestCycle prize pack each.

Let’s get ready to roll!
Orienteering is a sport where participants use a map to find 'controls' as fast as they can and students from Prep -primary through to year 6 have been participating in Orienteering activities during PE this week. Throughout the day, students have been seen racing around the playground trying to find the controls and with greater use of the map, are able to realize that the map makes the whole process easier!
For the remainder of term, the courses will get more difficult which will assist with the selection of students (year 5 & 6) to represent the school at the Interschool carnival early next term.
Can you work out where these pictured controls are located just by looking at them?
Ms Menegola

In Science this Term, Room 2.1 are learning all about Biological Science and the needs of plants and animals.
The children have been busy exploring seeds and plants in the classroom and were lucky enough to have some parent helpers join us for a fun day of investigations!
We carefully removed and studied seeds from different fruits and vegetables, created and labelled some beautiful flower art, and got to plant our own bean seeds. We have been very carefully observing our seeds as they have sprouted and began to grow along our classroom windowsill; making sure to give them all the things they need to stay alive.
Mrs Glendinning
Students in Rooms 4.3, 4.4, 5.3 and 5.4 spent time at the start of the year creating a community of characters to use during lessons in role-play activitites.
These characters vary from human form to superheroes and involve varying ages from children through to older citizens. Plenty of time and thought went into the clothing designs and some students have even created a back story for their characters.
This week, we introduced them to the school site and took some group photos of them all.
Don't they look great!
Ms Menegola
Over the final two weeks of this term, some selected Year 4 students will be involved in an alternative play project. This project involved the students being allowed to bring in their finger skateboards, bikes and scooters (Tech Deck is the leading brand) or small cars (Matchbox is one of the brands). The project aims to see how well the students engage in proactive play and follow our FPPS Behavioural Expectations. If the project is successful, then in Term Two, our staff will discuss the possibility of opening this project idea up further.
We have spoken to all the Year 3 to 6 students and informed them of the project. We have reminded them that it is not an opportunity to bring in their own toys unless they are part of this project.
If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to me at school or email me – at david.senn@education.wa.edu.au.
Thank you.
