Welcome to Term 4! We have had a fantastic start to the term, with a busy and exciting schedule ahead. Term 4 is always an important time of year as we focus on consolidating learning, preparing for end-of-year assessments, and celebrating the many achievements of our students.
Our focus continues to be on supporting our students to be their best self, ensuring that every student achieves personal and academic success. As we look ahead, it’s important that students remain focused, engaged, and ready to tackle the challenges of the term.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Community Forum
This term, we continue with our strong focus on implementing our PBS expectations across the school. The PBS team has been working closely with staff to refine our current matrix and extend our expectations to include both Staff and Community.
I am excited to announce that a Community Forum is planned for Week 4, following the assembly. The forum will start at 10:00am and will be held in the Staff Room. Parents are invited to attend, provide feedback, and share ideas about our school's current PBS expectations. This will also be a great opportunity to learn more about how these expectations will support restorative practices and contribute to managing behaviour at FPPS.
Morning tea will be provided. Stay tuned with more information to be shared on Connect next week.

AusBike Incursion - Flinders Park Bike Library
Mr. Fielding has been very busy sourcing bikes to add to the Flinders Park Primary School Bike Library. We are proud to announce that we now have a total of 15 bikes! These bikes will be put to great use later this term when our Year 4 and 5 students participate in a free incursion focused on developing bike safety knowledge and skills. Flinders Park has been included in the AusBike Regional Tour, where students will learn and enhance their cycling skills and safety awareness. This is an excellent initiative, and we’re thrilled to provide this opportunity for our students. Permission notes will be sent out in the coming weeks.

Our pre-primary class 1.2 received a lovely suprise after the school holidays. Our Deputy Principal Mr Fielding crafted new wooden toys for the students during the holidays.
The students were excited and eager to play with the trains, trucks and cars.
Flinders Park year 5 and 6 students have been working on one point perspective, which is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away (converging to a vanishing point). Students applied their knowledge of highlights and shadows to make their shapes appear three dimensional.

Scholastic Book Club Issue 6 has been sent home with your children.
Issue 7 will need all orders submitted by Friday the 23 October 2024.
LOOP is the custom Scholastic Book Club Ordering Platform as the school is transitioning to cashless Book Club ordering.
LOOP can be used via the website at scholastic.com.au/LOOP and the app can be found on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Did you know that every purchase you make on Book Club earns our school 15% of the order value in Scholastic Rewards? We use these to purchase more books and educational resources for the school. It all helps!
Thank you very much for your support!
Besides my bad attempts at a Shakespeare pun, the issue of whether students should be wearing boots at school is one we need to talk about. Over the last five or more years, more students have been wearing boot-type shoes. These include gumboots, Doc Martens (genuine or imitating), lace-up, and Blunstones. The main features of these boots are the high sides and the restrictiveness of ankle movement.
There is some concern that boots do not allow good ankle movement for the variety of physical activities the students are involved in, which can lead to ankle injuries. I have done some research (good old Google), and there is no definitive answer. However, most articles indicate that boots for students are better suited to static or non-strength activities, e.g. walking or sitting.
As part of our uniform requirement, students are requested to wear sneakers or enclosed back sandals. These shoes provide the flexibility and support for students to run, jump, and play and provide safety from potential hazards in the playground or classroom, e.g. sharp sticks or dropped pins.
We would ask parents and carers to ensure their children wear the best and most appropriate footwear for school. Avoid allowing them to make the decision. Keep boots for home and family outings.
Your support in ensuring our students have the most appropriate footwear for school will be greatly appreciated.
