It’s great to see the Flinders Park Primary School community buzzing with excitement this term, as students engage in a broad range of learning opportunities and experiences.
Year 6 Excursion to Denmark Agricultural College
In Week 4, our Year 6 students enjoyed a visit to the Denmark Agricultural College, where they experienced everything the college has to offer. They shared this experience with students from other schools in the Albany area providing a great opportunity to connect and make new friends. Some of the highlights students shared with me included exploring the dairy, running through the vineyards, and enjoying a sausage sizzle.
In-Term Swimming Lessons
Our in-term swimming lessons have now concluded for 2024. It was very pleasing to see our students demonstrating our PBS behaviours of Respectful, Kind, and Responsible during lessons and while traveling to and from the pool. Thank you to our staff and families for supporting our students each day, ensuring they were organised and ready for swimming. I was especially proud to see our senior students showing such kindness and care when helping their younger buddies during this time. Well done everyone—a lovely example of how amazing our school community truly is.
Book Week
Next week is Book Week, and this year’s theme is Reading is Magic! There are plenty of engaging activities planned across the school, with our whole school Book Week parade scheduled for Friday 23 August 2024 at 9:00 am in the undercover area. This year, our Kindy students will also be attending the event, and we look forward to sharing the fun with our youngest learners. Families are welcome and encouraged to come along and enjoy the celebrations!
Staff Updates for Term 3
From Week 7, I will be taking long service leave for four weeks, until the end of Term 3. This leave was planned and booked prior to my appointment to Flinders Park Primary School. During my time off, I will be traveling to Finland to attend the International Early Childhood Leadership Conference. I have several school visits planned in Finland as well as a meeting with the LEGO Foundation in Denmark. I’m very excited to learn more about educational practices in these countries and look forward to sharing my new knowledge with staff and families upon my return.
During my absence, David Senn will serve as Principal, with Richelle O’Donnell stepping into the Deputy Principal role. Congratulations to Richelle on winning this short-term position. I have no doubt she will be a great addition to the Administration Team, supporting our students, staff, and families.
With Richelle in the Deputy Principal role, we welcome Robyn Grey to Room 3.4 from Weeks 7-10. Thank you, Ms Grey, for joining our team. Your knowledge of our school and the relationships you already have with the students and families will provide continuity for the teaching and learning program.
PBS (Positive Behaviour Support) Parent Representatives
Our PBS Committee is seeking two parent representatives to join the committee. We see this as a great way for parents to participate in our school community, providing valuable feedback and support as we continue to embed our PBS values into our school culture. Meetings are typically held twice per term in the staff room after school.
If you’re keen to be part of this exciting team or would like more information, please get in touch via email or by phoning the front office.
Planning for 2025
If your child is currently enrolled in Kindy, please remember to complete a Pre-Primary Enrolment form for 2025 and submit it to the Front Office. Additionally, if your family is planning to move to a different school in 2025, please inform the Front Office of your intentions as soon as possible. Providing this information promptly helps us to plan effectively for the upcoming year. Thank you for your cooperation!

In week 2, students across the school participated in the traditional Flinders Olympics. Students were divided into 14 different countries and participated in activities where they were able to win medals (stickers) for their country. These events included activities such as cup stacking, word bingo, quizzes, mental maths, silent ball, egg and spoon and paper/scissors/rock.
Every day, the medal tally was updated and posted for students to track how their country was going.
The winning country was announced at today's assembly and the results were so close at the top of the table that a count back was needed to determine the winning nation.

On Monday 5 August 2024, the Year Sixes went to Denmark Agricultural College, along with several other primary schools around Albany and Denmark. We went to take a look at the many aspects of farming and agriculture including, the milking process, sheep shearing and beekeeping.
One thing we did was, go down to the dairy farm. There, we got to learn about the milking process and how they use a fancy machine that knows which cows to milk. We learnt that cows can give up to 50 litres of milk per day!! THAT’S A LOT OF MILK!!!
Another presentation was all about beekeeping. We learnt a lot about them. We were told that the male bees are called drones, and the females are called worker bees. The queen bee isn’t actually the one in charge; it’s the worker bees that rule the hive. Airlie and Quade even got to put on a beekeeper’s suit!
Next up on the agenda was heading down to the shearing/wool shed. While there, a man showed us all the important things you need to know when shearing a sheep. He also showed us the things you need to do before the wool is ready to sell. He told us some fun facts too; like how the fastest time for shearing a sheep is just 28 seconds, and how the oil in the wool is used for cosmetics like lip balm and make up. It was very interesting!
It was a fun excursion and we were really lucky to have the opportunity to enjoy going to the great Agricultural College. We learnt so much about agriculture and I will remember it forever!

This week, the Year 3 students at FPPS had an exciting visit from the local fire brigade! The firefighters brought along their fire trucks, and the students got hands-on experience using the water hoses and exploring the equipment. One of the highlights was climbing through a mini door to practice escaping from a smoke-filled room, learning important safety tips along the way. The firefighters also gave a mini lesson on what to do in case of a fire, emphasising the importance of calling '000' in an emergency. It was an educational and fun experience!

The Lower King Community Kindy Kids got to experience an amazing morning out and about on an excursion to the Fish Taps. Vernice Gillies, a local Menang elder from Kurrah Mia taught us all about how the Fish Traps were made many years ago, about bush medicine and what we could use it for. The students learnt about some of the local birds that live in the area and we were lucky enough to see a Sea Eagle sitting in the tree next to its nest watching over her babies.

These beautiful photos are a sample of the artworks from students in Years 1-6, as Flinders Park will be participating in the Great Southern Art Trail again this year. The Albany Public Library will host an exhibit featuring a selection of artwork from local students, including ours! The exhibition will be on display for the duration of the school holidays, from 21 September 2024 to 6 October 2024.
Students have been working hard on a variety of bird inspired artworks so please come and celebrate our "Fly with Flinders" exhibition. Artworks will also be on display for Open Night in the Art Room for those unable to make it to the Library during the installation.
Congratulations to the following students who were announced winners of the PBS Poster Competition. All students received a certificate and a canteen voucher.
Keep an eye out for their posters which will be displayed around the school.

Year 6 is a very exciting and fast-paced year for our Flinders Leavers! Please remember to look ahead to 2025 and ensure you enrol your child in High School.
Just like us, our local High Schools are planning and gearing up for next year and need to know who is going to be attending. Plus! If you are enrolled you will receive helpful communication from the High School to assist your child to have a successful start in Year 7.
If you have any questions please ask your child’s teacher or the staff in the front office.
Scholastic Book Club Issue 6 is being sent home with your children. Flinders Park are running two Book Club issues in Term 3 and in Term 4 we will only have one issue.
Issue 6 will need all orders submitted by Friday the 30 August 2024. LOOP is the custom Scholastic Book Club Ordering Platform as the school is transitioning to cashless Book Club ordering.
LOOP can be used via the website at scholastic.com.au/LOOP and the app can be found on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Did you know that every purchase you make on Book Club earns our school 15% of the order value in Scholastic Rewards? We use these to purchase more books and educational resources for the school. It all helps!
Thank you very much for your support!
