A Message From The Principal

Welcome Back to Term 3!

It was wonderful to see our students and staff return to school after the holidays, refreshed and ready to learn. We’ve had an exciting start at Flinders Park Primary School, beginning with our very own Olympics Opening Ceremony last week and celebrating NAIDOC Week this week.

A huge thank you to all the staff, parents, and volunteers who have been involved in planning and running events for our students over the past two weeks. We appreciate the valuable learning opportunities you have created for our FPPS children.

Meeting with the Education Minister

Last week, our School Board Chair Meghann Tysoe, P&C President Bev Els, and Vice President Jasmine Flavel had the opportunity to meet with Education Minister Dr. Tony Buti during his recent regional visit to Albany. They discussed some of the ongoing work in the education space. Thank you for representing FPPS—your support for our school is greatly valued.

Interm Swimming

Next week, our Interm swimming schedule at ALAC will begin. Communications have been sent to families; however, if you have any questions or queries, please contact the Front Office. Please ensure that all students' clothing and swimming items are clearly labeled to help us return lost items. We understand that swimming can disrupt our usual classroom routines, but our teachers are working hard to ensure that the learning needs of our students are met during this time.

Planning for 2025 is Underway!

Believe it or not, planning for 2025 has already begun. If your child is currently enrolled in Kindy, please remember to complete a Pre-Primary Enrolment form for 2025 and submit it to the Front Office.

Additionally, if your family is planning to move to a different school in 2025, please inform the Front Office of your intentions as soon as possible. Providing this information promptly helps us to plan effectively for the upcoming year.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Dates for Your Diary:

Book Week Parade: Friday, Week 6

Father’s Day Stall: Friday, 30th August

Principal Update

As Ms. Simpfendorfer is currently on medical leave, I am very excited to continue in the principal role until she returns. We send Ms. Simpfendorfer our well wishes and look forward to seeing her back at Flinders Park Primary School in the future.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome I have received from the staff, students, and families. I look forward to working with you all this term.

Warm regards

Flinders Olympics

In exciting news, it has been announced that the Flinders Olympics will be held this year at Flinders Park Primary School during week 2 of term 3.

This is a school tradition that first began in 1992 and has involved many students since the last century.

Students will become members of a 'country' and will participate in activities designed to challenge them in various ways.

The last games were held in 2021 due to Covid restrictions in 2020 and the current Year 4-6 students may remember their previous country.

It is anticipated that students will be in a different country to the last games.

The Olympic Committee has been working hard to prepare for the event.

The Opening Ceremony officiated by Queen Linda Fielding and supported by Mr Staude took place in our assembly hall this morning and representative students introduced the participating countries.

14 countries are sending athletes to compete in this years' games. Our student athletes have joined their teams and will be competing for gold, silver and bronze medals in week 2.

Mr Fielding carried the Olympic Torch and ignited the Olympic Fire, Mr Senn was keeping the medal safe.

The daily medal tally is displayed in Bock 3.

Flinders Olympics: The Great Emu Running Race

The Great Emu Running Race took place in the Early Childhood Area.

Competing jockeys from 1.2 and 1.3 jumped on their pool noodle Emu to race the Great Emu Distance.

The start line was buzzing. Emus and jockeys were dancing waiting eagerly for the race to start.

Ready ... Set ... Go! The Emus and jockeys gave their best and raced against each other for the win in the prestigious race.

But wait, what was that? It was alleged that one team jump-started the race and gained an unfair advantage. Officials reviewed the race start and deemed the race to be fair and proper.

Emus and jockey had great fun and many Great Emu Running Race records were set. The winning jockeys are proudly showing off their medals.

NAIDOC Week 2024

This week we are celebrating NAIDOC week with several activities; the first activity is a whole school collaboration. Sand was delivered out behind the music room, there will be two sand pits: one for Pre-primary to Year 3 and another for Year 4-6 . There was a design for each pit. Each class went out with Mrs Edwards and contributed to the relevant sand art design.

Brad Harkup took drone photos of our amazing sand art creations from the air.

On Tuesday and Wednesday each class visited the LOTE room with their classroom teacher to have a dreamtime story told from a community member and do a relevant art activity.

Brittany Williams visited our school, taking part in the rock painting activities and sand art.

Book Week is scheduled for Week 6 of this term, with this year's theme being "Reading is Magic."

On Friday 23 August at 9am, there will be a Book Week parade in the Assembly Hall. Children are encouraged to dress up in costumes that they feel represent the theme. The library will feature several new books, and there will be activities throughout the school.
