Hello Everyone,
An eleven week term is always a bit of a challenge, but here we are on the verge of the school holidays. Thank you for supporting your children through Term 2.
Interschool Cross Country
It was terrific to support our students who recently competed in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival at Mount Lockyer Primary School. The course was certainly challenging but competitors were pleased to run in the sunny conditions rather than the rain we had experienced every day that week. See the article further on for more details.
Enrolments
If you have a child going into Kindergarten, Pre-primary or Year 7 in 2025, the due date for public school enrolments is Friday 19 July. It is important to have Part 1 of your enrolment submitted by the due date so that the enrolment is considered in the first batch of enrolments. If you need any assistance with this, please drop into the school office for advice. There is also an article further on with additional information.
Term 3
There are many events on our school planner for Term 3. An early event that will take place over the first 3 weeks of term is our Flinders Olympics, held every time the Olympics is held. Students will be divided into ‘countries’ (not necessarily real countries) and will participate in events in an attempt to win medals. We will even have an opening and closing ceremony! Thank you to Ms Menegola for organising this. We hope the students will have lots of fun participating.
School Holidays
I wish you all a wonderful school holidays. School resumes on Tuesday 16 July since there is a School Development Day on the Monday. We are looking forward to welcoming students back for a great Term 3. I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy life at a different pace for a while.
Kind Regards,

Flinders Park Primary recently participated in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival which was held at Mt Lockyer Primary School. This carnival is a fitting conclusion to all the hard work the students have put in during the school PE program and allows the students to test themselves against other schools.
The course was a particularly technical one with lots of sharp turns, narrow gateways and uneven ground to contend with. Then of course, there was the uphill sections which some year levels had to run up four times in their race!!!
The year 3's at their first ever Interschool carnival (cross country) looked like seasoned professionals and brought home some very impressive results. Luku won the most exciting finish award with his 50m sprint at the end of his race!
The year 4's, 5's and 6's had mostly set themselves targets to try and improve their previous results which is not an easy task at all and many of them achieved this. The year 5 girls and year 6 boys were the most successful groups with all runners finishing in the top 14 of their race.
At the completion of the carnival, medals were presented to the top three placegetters in each race and we had Luku (2nd), Rose (1st) and Indi (3rd) all receive recognition for their efforts.
In the overall results, Flinders finished 2nd behind Denmark who have dominated the Cross Country carnivals for the last few years. This is a fantastic result.
In the Handicap results, which is awarded to the most improved school, Flinders placed 4th behind three schools who made significant improvements this year. A most creditable result!
Many thanks to the parents who assisted with marshalling duties. It is much appreciated.

We were thrilled to welcome SciTech to our school this week! Our students had an incredible time learning all about science through engaging and interactive experiences. They were lucky enough to watch an exciting science show and then participate in hands-on workshops. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore the wonders of science in a fun and educational environment. A big thank you to SciTech for providing such a memorable experience!
Here are some sentences the Year 3s wrote about their experiences.
At 9 o’clock on Wednesday, Colin raced with a girl swirling a bottle of water in a tray in the Assembly Hall.
In the morning, Colin twisted a zip and it turned into two zips in the Assembly Hall.
On Wednesday, Colin spun a cup full of water on a sling without spilling any in the Assembly Hall.
On Wednesday, Colin stretched a cloth to show which cloth was the stretchiest in the Assembly Hall.
In the morning, Colin bent a saw to show us how our vocal cords work at the Scitech Incursion.
On Wednesday, Colin did a science experiment to shake a water bottle and made it go blue in the Assembly Hall.
The Lower King Community Kindy Kids have shown a lot of interests this term in all things Bugs and Insects. This led us to using the enquiry approach of "I see" " I think" and " I wonder" about the insects that live in our own outside environment at Kindy. The students learnt about the life cycle of a caterpillar, made some beautiful butterflies and some busy bees, these activities incorporated lots of counting, colours and looking at patterns.

Sevens is a ball/wall game where two players complete a series of skills (there are seven different types) as fast as they can.
The annual Sevens Tournament has just been completed and involved students from year 4 - 6 testing their skills against each other in a knockout tournament. All games were held during break times in the assembly area and many of the students also took on umpiring duties throughout the event.
Logan and Riley (both year 6) were declared the school champions and will have their names added to the perpetual trophies as well as the honour board. Congratulations!

The Pre-primary students in room 1.3 have been learning about plants and insects. On Wednesday we had a special visit from Carol at Bunnings Warehouse. The students helped Carol plant out the veggie garden with winter vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. Along with some flowers which will help attract the "good" bugs and repel the "bad" bugs. The students enjoyed getting stuck into helping by digging the soil, mulching and watering. They were also very happy to have their very own pair of gardening gloves to take home. BIG thanks to Bunnings for donating the plants and gardening tools and to the parent helpers for assisting us.

On Wednesday, 22 May at 10am, Flinders Park Primary School and over 2 million other students across the nation participated in the annual National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). Every year, a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops, and many other places around the country. Now in its 24th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, and fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas across the curriculum.
In response, students designed and created a school wide bower in Block 3. Students collected lots of blue recycled objects and created art pieces to add to the bower.
We can’t wait to find out what the 2025 book will be!
Book Week will be returning in 2024 - Term 3 Week 6!
The theme is ‘Reading Is Magic’.
More details will be provided in Term 3.
Thank you for helping us with students arriving at school at an appropriate time.
In a general sense, students should only be on school grounds at about 8:30 am.
Students shouldn’t be coming to school early to play because we are unable to provide enough supervision for this to be done safely. Students should only be on school grounds earlier than 8:30 am if they arrive by bus (most arrive around 8:15) or are coming to attend Breakfast club (opens at 8:15 am). If students are attending for breakfast, students need to go to the breakfast club. Please note that if your children need to eat breakfast, the breakfast room closes at 8:35 am, so students need to arrive in time to eat before closing.
Any student who arrives before 8:15 am needs to come straight to Block 5 (not go to class first). They will need to sit quietly to wait in the courtyard of Block 5 until they are released to attend breakfast or sit outside their classroom.
There will also be changes to the number of days that the basketball courts is opened for bus students. The courts will no longer be opened on Monday and Friday.
We will monitor the number of students attending early. We need to provide safety and supervision for students on site and we may need to introduce further changes if numbers don’t reduce.
Thank you for helping us keep Flinders Park a safe school for all students.
