Message From The Principal

Hello Everyone,

It is great to see everyone again after the school holidays. I hope that your school holidays went well and that you had the opportunity to spend extra time with your families.

Teacher Strike

Thank you for your understanding and support with the strike action taken by the teachers on Tuesday. I know that it was a significant inconvenience for many of you. The decisions about what each individual school could do were made by the Department of Education and this was communicated to you as soon as possible after we were informed. As mentioned in my Connect Notice, different attendance codes were created for that day and there will be no penalty for any student that didn’t attend.

School Development Day

We hope that families enjoy having a long weekend with the School Development Day on Friday 26 April.  Flinders Park School staff will be undertaking the second day of training for the Berry Street Education Model that we are implementing at our school. We look forward to having students back with us on Monday.

ANZAC Day Troop March

It was an honour to join the ANZAC Day Troop March and attend the ANZAC Commemorative Service at Peace Park. It was wonderful to see so many students attend to march behind the Flinders Park Primary School banner. I am very proud of the way the students represented our school. Thank you, parents for the role you played in making student participation a success. Thank you also to Mr Fielding for organising our participation in the March.

Retirement

Mrs Pam Triplett will soon be retiring for her role as Library Officer. I would like to thank Mrs Triplett for her years of dedicated service in the Flinders Park Primary School library. We will all miss her very much and are quite jealous of the caravanning adventures that she has planned!  Mrs McLean will have additional days in the library so that our students can still enjoy taking out books from the library.

Before and After School Care

We have opened an expression of interest for an operator to run an OSHC (Out of School Hours Care) on the Flinders Park Primary School site. We are hoping to be able to start a new service during Term 3. Information can be found on our Facebook page and website.

P&C

I would also like to thank the P&C for approving the purchase of an outdoor table tennis table to enhance the Flinders Park Primary School playground options for students. We are looking forward to installing the table as soon as it arrives. I encourage you to support the P&C and their fundraising events. All funds the P&C raise come back to the school as donations – last year it was the Ninja Playground, this year an outdoor Table Tennis Table! What will be next??

There are plenty of events at Flinders Park this term for you to enjoy. I look forward to seeing you around the school.

Principal

Year 6 Camp: Quaranup 2024

As soon as we got to camp, we set up our dorms. I was in the dorm called Seal with three other people; Logan, Izzy and Jemma. As soon as we finished setting up our dorms, we went to do a Cultural Awareness activity, where we all learnt how to make soap and what some of the other plants around the area were used for.

Next, we did geocaching. Geocaching was fun. My group found seven geocaches. One of the geocaches was hidden as a screw. In my group was Alia, Tyler G, Roy, Billy and Jett. Then we had dinner. For dinner we had fish and chips. After dinner we had the quiz night. For the activities in between rounds we did a balloon race where the balloon had to go between your legs, and you needed to get to the other side of the room. My group won that activity. The second activity was as mummy competition. For the mummy competition you had to wrap a person up to look like a mummy. We came second overall for the whole quiz night. After that we went straight to bed.

At around 6.00am we went down to the jetty to watch the fishing. They caught a few fish. After fishing we did archery, where I hit a few bullseyes. Then we did raft building. During raft building we learnt how to tie a few knots and then we had to build a raft with 6 containers, 2 planks of wood, five pieces of rope and a pretend torch. In my group there was Noah, Zola and me. Our raft looked pretty good until it went into the water and fell apart, but it was still fun (My group came 3rd).

After all that it was the TALENT SHOW!!!!!!! Emilia, Isabel and I went 2nd and did the cup song and did really well. My favourite act was Jemma’s group.

Year 6 camp at Quaranup was the best!

Literacy Corner: How To Support Your Child With Reading At Home

Knowledge is power, and even more so when it comes to your child’s learning. If you know exactly where your child’s difficulties lie, you can give them the extra practise that will make all the difference!

At Flinders Park Primary School students from Pre-Primary to Year 3 have access to Phonics Hero at school and home, which supports and consolidates their Letters and Sounds knowledge.

Parents get access to:

  • Advice from our experts on how to get the most out of the program, including information on each of the skills. You can then assist your child according to where their weaknesses and strengths lie.
  • Practical tips on how to use the platform.
  • A report card showing your child’s percentage score for each level and each synthetic phonics skill.
  • A drill-down showing how your child did for each sub-skill.
  • An application to hear the sounds so that you can correctly practise pronunciation with your child.

Your child’s teacher can provide you with the login details to get started. This is a fun way to spend quality time with your child!

Unexplained Absences (No Reason Given)

Next week, the FPPS “Unexplained Absences” Letter will be sent out to families of students absent from school, and no reason has been given for their absence. If you receive a letter, could parents/carers please ensure they complete it with the reasons for your child’s absence from school? Your support with this will enable FPPS to maintain accurate records, support families where necessary and assist with our whole school data analysis.

Deputy Principal

Mrs Triplett's Retirement

With tears in our eyes we are saying farewell to our dedicated school librarian Mrs Triplett.

After nearly twenty years at Flinders Park Primary School the time has come for Mrs Triplett to retire. Well-liked by staff and students alike Mrs Triplett will be sadly missed.

We wish Mrs Triplett a fun-filled and relaxing retirement travelling in her caravan.

Mrs McLean, who has been working with Mrs Triplett part time, will be taking on the role of the school librarian full time.

Auf Wiedersehen Mrs Triplett!
