A Message From The Principal

Hello Everyone,

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of Term 1! I think this is the shortest term our school system has ever had, since Week 1 was only 3 days and Week 9 is only 4 days. We will certainly make up for it next term with 11 weeks.

Thank You

We have been looking for more opportunities for families to be involved in daily school life, which is one of the goals in our Business Plan. It is great to see that many teachers have started to arrange parent rosters for their class. During Week 8 we also involved families in the Vintage Car visit and our Harmony Day celebrations. It was fantastic to have so many family members attend these events. Thank you for coming along to be part of our school events. Did you see the article in The Extra about the Vintage Car visit? It was great to have some positive school news in our local press.

School Board Nominations

I am pleased to let you that I received several parent nominations for the Flinders Park School Board. The nominees are currently undertaking the required clearance. An announcement about the new board Members will be made as soon as the clearance requirements are completed.

Communication Policy

We value the strong connection we have with our parents and carers. Our aim is to always work in partnership with parents and families to achieve positive outcomes for all students.  Since effective two-way communication is integral to this partnership, we have developed a Communication Policy. The Policy has been sent to all families via Connect.

Please familiarise yourself with this policy which outlines the communication expectations of all parties. It explains the best form of communication for situations you are likely to encounter and also outlines how the school uses the various communication types to circulate information to families.

School Holidays

As we head rapidly towards the school holidays, I wish you well for the break. I hope you are able to enjoy life at a slower pace for a while and connect with your family and friends.

A reminder that students return on MONDAY 15 April since our School Development Day is later in the term. We have moved the pupil free day to the Friday after ANZAC Day so that our families can enjoy an extra long weekend.

All the best,

Julie Simpfendorfer

Principal

Flinders Regatta

The Flinders Regatta is an annual dry-boat race which is held on the birthday of Matthew Flinders, the explorer after whom our school is named.

Year 6 students are challenged to make a recyclable boat out of a large box and then run in that boat around a short course. Boats are to be made out of school hours, dropped off at school on the morning of the race and at the end of the event are to be taken home to be recycled.

The winning team is the crew of the Titanic Iceberg replica.

Vintage Car Club Visit

On Tuesday our students had a visit from the Vintage Car Club. The classic cars parked up on the school oval and our students had the opportunity to visit the cars and vote for their favourite car.

Many horns were honked, engines were started and the period costumes were admired by students and staff.

Thank you very much for organising this great event Mr Fielding.

Harmony Picnic

Our Harmony Day Picnic was a great success. We had many Flinders Park families brave the Albany drizzle and join us for our "Everyone Belongs" Harmony Day Picnic.

The students loved to have their family in the classroom and complete the art activity decorating their Harmony Week hands. The beautiful creations will be proudly displayed in the hall for all to admire.

Thank you very much to Mrs Senn and her committee for organising this year's Harmony Week event and activities.

St Patricks Day Celebrations in Pre-Primary

Our pre-primary students learned all about St Patricks Day and made some great looking leprechauns to help celebrate the day.

Ride To School Day

National Ride2School Day was a great success. 46 students pedal powered their way to school on Friday morning. Our bike shed burst with student bicycles parked during the school day.

All participating students received a certificate and one lucky student won a prize pack sponsored by Your Move.

Welcome Breakfast Lower King Community Kindergarten

Our Lower King Community Kindergarten came together with all their kindy families for a Big Welcome Breakfast.

The students enjoyed a buffet of sausages in bread, watermelon and warm banana muffins.

ANZAC Service

Flinders Park Primary School will take part in this year's ANZAC commemoration. Interested students can be part of the ANZAC parade on York Street.

If your child is interested in being part of the ANZAC march please see Mr Fielding in Week 1 of Term 2 and collect a permission form.

Please return completed permission forms to the school office. Spare permission forms will be also available from the school office.

PJ Day Fundraiser 27 March 2024

The Student Leaders have organised a fundraiser for Wednesday 27 March 2024. The theme is PJs. It is a gold coin donation.

Students can wear slippers, dressing gowns, pyjamas, etc. No Onesies or similar clothing.

Students must have appropriate school shoes on for the day. Optional, some students may prefer to bring their school uniform to change into later in the day.

We look forward to seeing the stylish PJ ensemble the students wear on the day.

The councillors will come around in the morning to collect any donations and all donations will go to the Kalgan Volunteer Bushfire Brigade.

First Aid For Students

You may have noticed the yellow slips (notification of injury or illness) we send home with students when they required First Aid during the school day.

We have been advised by the Department of Education that we cannot apply stingose or OTC creams on a student without requesting permission from parents.

From now on we will be treating minor bites and itches by washing the area with water and possibly applying ice. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and if cream is required we will call you to ask for permission. We appreciate your understanding of this change.

Instrumental Music Contributions

We have a wonderful and talented group of students participating in the Instrumental Music (IMSS) program at Flinders.  An additional contribution of $30.00 is requested from IMSS students, which goes toward the purchase of school music supplies and equipment (e.g. music stands, class sets of books, ensemble music, instrument accessories) as well as select IMSS activities/excursions.  If you have not yet paid your Instrumental Music contribution you can do so through direct deposit or via the Drop Box.  Thank you.

Dental Therapy Centre News

Spencer Park Dental Therapy Centre offers free dental examinations, oral care advice, preventative, restorative and emergency treatment for children from pre-primary to Year 11.

Enrolment forms will soon be issued to your child if they have recently changed schools or enrolled in Pre-Primary, please return the forms to your school by Friday 19th April if you wish to use our service.

Parents of enrolled students are reminded to contact the centre to update your details if you have moved in the last few years. All appointments are posted home, many are returned due to incorrect addresses, this means that your child misses out on their dental visit. If you no longer intend to use our service and attend a private dental clinic, please let us know as soon as possible as your valuable appointment could be taken up by someone else. You can call us on 9841 3967 or send us an email to spencerparkdtc@health.wa.gov.au.

Unfortunately, our clinics do not have reception staff, your child will be enrolled as soon as possible. They may not receive an exam appointment for up to 12months. Please call us if your child is in pain.
