Hello Everyone,
It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the term! Life around school is busy as usual, perhaps more so for teachers who are busy preparing student reports.
I would like to thank the student leaders for organising Pyjama Day as a gold coin fundraising day today. There is certainly a relaxed feeling around the school with everyone in their PJs.
I am pleased to let you know that Flinders Park Primary School have secured a grant from the Federal Government for the installation of a new parkour style playground. I worked with students in years five and six to design a playground and I am excited that we managed to secure this funding. We are following the purchasing procedures required and are hoping for an installation before the end of the year.
I am hopping we have good weather for our Faction Cross Country Carnival on Friday 9 June. I would like to thank Mrs Menegola for all the work she has put into training the students for this event. It is fantastic that several parents have also come along to train alongside the students. I hope to see family members come along for the day to support and cheer for the students as they participate in this event.
I hope you are all looking forward to the long weekend to celebrate Western Australia. There are many events on around town which gives us all the opportunity to get out and about in beautiful Albany. Remember to drop in on the P&C sausage sizzle at the WA Day Festival at the Museum of the Great Southern. All funds raised at the Sausage Sizzle benefit the Flinders Park P&C and Flinders Park Primary School.
Have a great weekend!

Principal
The Golden Frisbee Competition is an annual event that matches the best frisbee throwers in the school against each other to see who can throw the frisbee the longest. This year all classes (year 1 - 6) practised the skill during their PE lessons with the final selected students, from years 4 - 6.
Winning the competition is not an easy feat. Wind can wreak havoc with the frisbee and there are a few obstacles on the course (goal posts) that can also alter the frisbee's flight.
Nerves seem to have affected many throwers this year with many throws ending up 'out of bounds' but the 2nd last thrower of the competition, Riley (Year 5) managed to keep calm and produced the winning throw with a length of 42.19m.
Congratulations to all students who participated.
On Wednesday the 24 May 2023, our students joined over 2 million other students across the country in listening to the Speedy Sloth, as part of the National Simultaneous Storytime event.
Ask your child what it was about!
Fun facts:
- Sloths only go to the toilet once a week.
- Sloths go to the toilet on the ground.
Think about all the toilet paper they would save!
The event is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and its purpose is to promote the value of reading and literacy.

For National Sorry Day students participated in an art activity to make a Desert Rose also known as Native Hibiscus.
The Desert Roses are displayed in the front office alongside a poem called "Sorry".
Sorry Day is about the apology to Aboriginal people for the trauma and sadness the Australian government caused. It also acknowledges the strength of the Stolen Generation survivors, and gives us an opportunity to reflect on how Australians can all play a part in the healing.
Nyorn winyarn moort / Sorry -Sad – family. Whilst there is no direct translation, this is the English translation of some of the words Noongar people would use.
Students and Teachers talked in class about National Sorry Day and The Stolen Generations. Some classes read the book "Found" by Bruce Pascoe and Charmaine Ledden-Lewis, which is a story about a calf and his journey to find his family. It resonates with emotion that children will connect with, and helps give them an understanding of what happened to Aboriginal children and families of the Stolen Generation.

The Student Councillors organised a fundraiser for Friday 2 June 2023. The theme was PJs.
For a gold coin donation students could wear their PJs, Oodies and dressing gowns to school and bring along teddy.
There were many stylish ensembles around and we even spotted some hair curlers.
The PJ Day fundraising event organised by our Student Councillors raised nearly $500.00. Thank you very much for the support.
Dear Parents and Students,
Last week our school hosted the Bookaneer Scholastic Book Fair from Monday 29 May 2023 to Thursday 1 June 2023.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank parents/carers and students for supporting this fundraiser. It raised $3597.95 providing $976.00 of valuable learning resources for our school.
Yours sincerely,
