Makuru

June / Juli -

Coldest and wettest time of the year.

Winds turn west and south and people move back inland from the coast.

Waterways and catchments start to fill and food sources change from sea/estuarine and lakes to those of the lands. Grazing animals such as the kangaroo – yongka not only provide food but also animal skin – bookas (animal skin cloaks) are used a nights become much colder.

Lakes will see an influx of Black Swan – mali as they prepare to nest and bread like many other animals.
