Today, our students proudly took part in National Schools Tree Day, contributing to a greener future by planting a variety of possum-friendly native plants around our school grounds. This hands-on activity is part of our commitment to the Possum Conservation Initiative, a local environmental project led by South Coast NRM.
We were thrilled to welcome Southern Aboriginal Corporation Rangers Fiona, Henry, and Coby, who guided the planting and shared valuable cultural and ecological knowledge. Their insights helped deepen our understanding of the local ecosystem and the importance of preserving it.
With recent sightings of the endangered Western Ringtail Possum on our school site, and the initiative’s focus on urban greening in Bayonet Head and Oyster Harbour, we are excited to support this vital conservation effort.
As part of the initiative, South Coast NRM generously provided 50 native plants and a bird bath, helping us create a safe habitat and water source for the local possum population.
Looking ahead, we are working towards hosting a community information session to raise awareness and encourage local engagement with the project. We believe that by working together, we can make a meaningful impact on the conservation of our unique wildlife and natural environment.
Thank you to all who participated and supported this wonderful initiative!
